Yep, I guess I'll have to ask DMantra when he shows up again about patching the IBJ patch (which I did) whether he feels it's cheating or not and/or if he's okay with my doing it, as you suggest. I'm glad to hear it's not a requirement of the hack though. Your percentage is a little better this time. If nothing else, there is someone working on maps of the game which won't be released until DMantra says it's okay. You can also take a break from play and then try again at a later time but before the maps are released, which might help. I'll continue my playthrough with the patched rom but he'll have to mark my time and percentage as harnessed. I think it's a really enjoyable hack so far, also. ;D (Edit) AArrgghh, I seem to be stuck.... I've progressed up to here: -Well, now that you've got charge, you'll want to go back to the elevator near where you got morph ball. Use your ability to break bomb blocks to get rid of an eyesore in the way, and your charge beam to remove a bouldery obstruction, and enjoy what lies ahead. You'll find a helpful item... ten of them, actually. The only thing I can find are two boulder things you can shoot charged shots at and a bunch of purple/pink metroids if I go further. There's also an elevator that leads to a couple bossdoor eye things. I can't find ten of anything except the metroids. Don't know where to go....

Take that elevator to the bossdoor eye things and search there. Open them with missiles

Right now, I only picked up one pack of two missiles. So, I need to do some missile tank hunting, eh?? Grrrr.... You don't have to if you don't want but I'm wondering if you could give me clues as to the locations of more missile tanks?? Thanks for any help....

There are 2 tanks in the watery area maybe 3(don't know if power bombs are required). The third is in the first water room down from the ship in the left/down corner. Another in the room left and down from there containing a save station(In this first go to the upper right corner and then down and then left. You'll see a chozo statue that's holding a tank but you need to shoot to make it become visible). The last one is hidden in the room left from there with the big turtle(look down/right in that room). edit: Now I Have every energy tank, 29 Super missiles(30 possible) and 33 power bombs(35 possible). Think it's 98% because I collect 7 tanks more since my last 91%. Think there's ony one SM tank an one PB tank(including 2 power bombs) left

Hey. I'm curious about Eris, of course, but I don't think I'll come in with the festivities. However, where's that 'Grand Prix' minihack you mentioned at the start? I don't see it anywhere. It sounds interesting. Oh, and with Eris, I'll probably go through it, just not as a competition.

About the Grand Prix hack, go here: forum.metroid2002.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=37be72d7014e10ab95bdac5df55cd699&board=35.0Or more specifically, here: forum.metroid2002.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=37be72d7014e10ab95bdac5df55cd699&topic=8423.0It's a short but sweet hack, really fun and I love the graphics. Shoot the stop signs for items. The first one respawns but doesn't affect your final percentage any even if you collect it ten times in a row before proceeding. In the first version of this hack you can actually go another lap around the course if you want. Actually as many times as you want. Fortunately I downloaded it before this was fixed, but going extra laps doesn't give you the best time. Back to Eris: So, Bioniclegenius, you dare decline my offering to race you playing it, eh?? Grrrr.... Ha ha, that's okay, I'm not mad. When you do play it, I think you'll enjoy it. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you get stuck once you get around to playing it, Okay?? While I'm here, I figure I should give a progress report: First, on page 18 of DMantra's Eris thread, danidub released a map. Every area and room even has a name. Cool, huh?? I figure we can start using these names on that map if we need help or if we say something about a specific room (would be cool if we do this but you don't have to if you don't want). I'll have this map as my desktop background until I've beaten this one at least once, or more times. Looks great as a background in my opinion. I'm currently in the Phazon Hollows section in the Heart of The Hive. Clearly I need to practice with Evasion. I might see if I can find more E-Tanks and then proceed. I savestated at the elevator so I still have that option. Or I could wait until after clearing this room. Choices, choices.... (Edit) Yay!! I have 10 of those ;D ;D !! Had to go through a couple enemies though.... (Edit2) Progress report: I got the speed booster. Yep, I need to pick up the pace. I've been distracted lately mainly because my favorite online game is up and running again after a little more than a year, but I'll get back to this probably either later today or tomorrow. DMantra posted a youtube speed run and I did watch the first two parts but decided not to watch the rest until I've beaten it at least once.

Well, as you predicted, I'm starting it now. So far, it's going pretty well. I just got bombs, but I dunno where to really go next... Oh well. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

I'm not sure if you found out where to go next, but there are two mini walkthroughs. One by Acheron86 and the other by Derakon. Not sure if you'll rather or rather not use them but here they are just in case: The one by Acheron86: Eris Item Progression Mini-Walkthrough Guide
If you just started... (click to show/hide) -Get morph ball first. You shouldn't go swimming without it... except maybe in a pool where you walk on water.
So you got that item? (click to show/hide) -Now's not a bad time to get missiles. They aren't very far from where you are--check the room with the fallen soldier.
What's next? (click to show/hide) -If I were you, I'd be jonesin' for some bombs about now. There's an area above and to the left of your ship with a tileset similar to Draygon's room from SM; remember this place, which I call the junction, because you'll come back a lot. For your first trip, head all the way through it to the last door, then take the portal-like exit to a new, purple-ish area full of mushrooms and chozo statues. Explore around the Chozo kitchen and you'll find your bombs.
Okay, I got those. (click to show/hide) -Well, you need to get grapple, sure, but I would consider another trip up to the junction I just told you to remember. There's a very helpful item that you'll want to get up there; explore the room, and look for a hidden morph path.
Oh, that's handy. So where's... (click to show/hide) -Grapple? Just head back to the main ship area and look for a morph ball passage between the upper and lower left-hand doors. It'll get you on your way to another underwater area that you should have little trouble exploring.
So now I have... (click to show/hide) -You should have morph, bombs, grapple, some missiles, and evasion from the junction. Now you can head up to get charge, which is required to move on. Have you considered a trip back to your ship?
Yeah! (click to show/hide) -Well, now that you've got charge, you'll want to go back to the elevator near where you got morph ball. Use your ability to break bomb blocks to get rid of an eyesore in the way, and your charge beam to remove a bouldery obstruction, and enjoy what lies ahead. You'll find a helpful item... ten of them, actually.
Well, I got those ten. (click to show/hide) -Aren't you tired of all those speed booster blocks? Head back to the junction (where you got evasion) northwest of your ship; this time, take a trek out the upper-left-hand door, not the lower left one. You'll find some white, pirate-infested ruins... check for a very obvious super missile door in a room with giant Ridley-statue heads. That'll lead to something fast.
Well, I'm fleet-footed now. (click to show/hide) -Speed booster will open up a new path near where you got bombs. Look for a room with a large tide that has some speed booster blocks in the way, and follow that path all the way through.
I've been wanting those forever! (click to show/hide) -Power Bombs definitely open a lot of doors, and you'll need them to get moving forward. You have a couple of items you can get, but I'd grab ice beam first: it's very, very close to grapple beam's location.
That's cold. (click to show/hide) -Cold enough to freeze metroids, even. Try getting rid of the plethora of all the strange purple ones that have made a home in the area east of where you got your ten-pack of supers. It's a big room, so be sure to kill them all, then check the upper-right door for a new way out.
Okay. (click to show/hide) -Heading out the west door after getting the high-jump boots will lead to a new area. Be sure to explore it and try find a couple of power bomb packs. Once your max capacity is five or six, you should be good to go. Head to the top of this snowy area, and look for a hidden passage in a wall that you have to drop into some sand falls to find. If you see a gray door and you've noticed bubble containers, you're in the right room. Use your power bombs to get rid of them and open that door up.
That put a spring in my step. (click to show/hide) -With spring ball in hand, continue exploring to the east. Try to go as far up and to the right as you can. If you a find a room with snails and water, you're doing fine. There's two ways to get to the top of the snail room, and once you're there, use a PB to shatter the glass tube and find space jump.
I got that. (click to show/hide) -Next, get wave beam. It's conveniently located not too far from where you fought Kraid to get high jump boots... just check side passages along the same path you came through on your trip up to the snowy area you've been exploring. Specifically, look for a power bomb door one room west of the shallow lake, and follow that path through.
That was a lot of work. (click to show/hide) -Now that you have wave, go back to those white ruins to the northwest. There's a room not too far from speed booster with a hidden passage you can traverse using power bombs and spring ball. Get through those, then try to think of a clever way to use your space jump and evasion items to get through the purple thorns that block upward progress. After that, wave beam will open a path to Draygon and a suit upgrade you've probably been dying to get.
I am the chozen one. (click to show/hide) -That just about does it for item acquisition, so now you just need to hunt artifacts. A map has already been provided in the thread for that, so I'll leave it up to you to use that. Once you have four artifacts, go back to the area you got bombs, and a new path will open.
I think that covers everything mandatory. Let me know if I messed anything up, dudes and ladies.
The one by Derakon: My recollection of the main route, using my made-up names for places since the official names don't mean anything to me:
Ship Eris station proper (morphball) Underwater area (missiles) Chozo hometown (bombs) Pirate Hub (Evasion) Underwater area by way of Eris station proper (grapple beam) Landing site BWO Eris station proper (charge beam) Spore Spawn / Botwoon zone BWO ESP (super missiles) Norfair BWO ESP, Pirate Hub (speedbooster) Mushroom Forest BWO PH (powerbombs, first artifact) Underwater area BWO PH, ESP (ice beam) Icy Purple Metroids BWO ESP, Spore Spawn / Botwoon zone (second artifact, Hi-Jump) Sandfall Zone BWO Ice Lake (Springball, Space Jump) Pirate Pipes (third artifact) Ice Lake (wave beam) Norfair BWO ninja pirates, PH (fourth artifact, chozen armor) Phazon Mines BWO PH, Mushroom Forest (elevator -> plasma beam)
So you do spend a fair amount of time bopping through Eris Station Proper and the Pirate Hub, but many of the new powerups drop you off near where you need to use them, and the hubs are designed to be quickly navigable.
There are also videos but I've decided not to use them on my first playthrough. (I wonder if there are smilies out there that have hair on their heads....) (see?? Even the laughing ones are bald)
